Sunrise to Sunset Hiking Elopement in Colorado

Some of the best photos, happen by accident. Not purely by accident, but also not at all on purpose. For example, the end of the day with Amanda + Logan was full of little surprises. Their day was broken up into both sunrise and sunset, or what we call split coverage. The morning was full of beautiful weather, with soft, bright clouds and temperatures that gradually rose from pretty chilly at sunrise to positively balmy by midday. But in the evening when we reconvened, the skies were dark with ominous clouds and rain was falling. So when we made the decision to trek up the mountain we had planned for anyway, we weren’t entirely sure what we would be met with at the top.

However, the rain slowly began to subside as we hiked. By the time we reached the top, it was only raining a little and the views were their own brand of unique magic in every direction. As we looked out over Lake Dillon and its many small islands the skies were bright blue with just a tinge of orange and pink to the scattered clouds in the distance. To our east, a rainbow had formed in direct contrast to the deep grey skies above. North of us, the sunset illuminated the clouds that hung over the mountain as if it were on fire.

This was accident number 1, stumbling across three unique views, none of which were quite what we had expected when we set out. Accident number 2 began immediately after, when despite the calming rain, huge gusts of wind picked up out of nowhere. Amanda + Logan hurriedly huddled together under their umbrella, attempting to block the wind that was moving the remaining raindrops sideways. Their laughter was genuine as they couldn’t help but give into the absurdity of the abrupt change in our fortunes. But thankfully, just a minute later the wind calmed back down, the rain subsided entirely, and we had the rest of the sunset to marvel at the different views all around us.

But that isn’t the only part of Amanda + Logan’s story that happened by accident, because their meeting wasn’t even “supposed” to happen. They met on Hinge, where Amanda thought she had set her proximity to “within 5 miles”. So when Logan swiped on her profile, and she reciprocated interest, they began to talk. But only after a few days of chatting did they realize, they actually lived in completely different areas, about an hour and a half apart. But there was enough there between them already to justify not giving up on things just yet, and years later that little accident is still working out just fine for them.

Much of their relationship was based on intention as was the rest of their elopement day. But sometimes, the accidents turn out just as well as the plans.
