Fairy Glen Elopement in Scotland
Isle of Skye Elopement
Crystal + Taylor
About ten years ago, Crystal was working behind the concession stand at the local movie theater, when a cute boy walked in for his first day of work. His name was Taylor, and Crystal developed an immediate crush on him. Eventually that crush became mutual and Crystal and Taylor have been together ever since!
After over nine years together, waiting for the stars to align, they finally realized that there will never be the perfect time to get married. There would always be things keeping them busy, and there would always be things they needed to get done. So they decided to just go for it. As introverts, they always knew that a big wedding wasn’t for them. They wanted a wedding day that was low key like them and they didn’t want too much attention. So they agreed on having a destination small wedding with some of their closest friends and family present. After a lot of research, they came across Isle of Skye, and it offered everything they dreamed of.
Isle of Skye is nicknamed the Misty Isle, and the name is fitting! The weather in Isle of Skye is known for being wet and windy. The day before Crystal and Taylor’s wedding was one of the worst days of weather Skye had seen in a long time. The wind gusted over 40 miles per hour and the rain fell sideways. We all took shelter inside and anxiously watched the weather forecast.
On the morning of Crystal and Taylor’s wedding day, we were greeted with the calm after the storm, and everyone felt a wave of relief. Crystal and Taylor rented out adjoining apartments in the town of Portree. The apartments overlooked Loch Portree and the surrounding mountains. They got ready separately, Crystal upstairs and Taylor downstairs, both full of nervous energy. We assured them that their first look overlooking the bay would help melt away their worries.
Once everyone was dressed and ready, we headed out to their first look location. Crystal and Taylor told us that they imagined their first look location having sweeping views of Skye. We found them a spot perched on the top of a cliff, overlooking the port below. The wind howled as Crystal made her way to the cliff edge, where Taylor waited. They cuddled together to keep warm and admired both each other and the view.
We then made our way to their Ceremony, which was held in a little valley just outside of the Fairy Glen. Everyone hiked up through the mud together and settled into the lowest part of the valley, somewhat shielded from the wind. Their families gathered together and our favorite Isle of Skye officiant lead the ceremony. Crystal and Taylor wanted to take part in a traditional hand fasting ceremony with the help of their mothers. They also drank whiskey from a traditional Scottish Quiach.
After the ceremony, Crystal and Taylor said goodbye to their guests and we embarked on the adventure part of their wedding day. We explored more of the Fairy Glen before heading to a beautiful castle along the water. We all joked that visiting a castle while in the Scottish Highlands was required for tourist sake! Finally, we ended our adventure at the Quiraing, which is a region of otherworldly green mountains. There, they had their first dance before returning to Portree for a family dinner.
Isle of Skye is known for its magic and outstanding scenery, and it always lives up to its reputation. Crystal and Taylor’s wedding day was nothing less than magical.
