For Jessica and Jason, the mountains have always been their escape from work and life stresses. They wanted their wedding day to give them time to focus on each other, while being surrounded by mountain views, wildflowers, lakes, and waterfalls. This led them to choosing to elope in Colorado’s San Juan Mountains.

Early in the planning process, they weren’t sure how to balance having an intimate experience for just the two of them with spending quality time with their small group of guests. Upgrading to 12.5 hours of coverage gave them the ability to have both experiences. They had time to explore and soak in the day with just the two of them (and their dogs) as well as time to enjoy the company of their guests.

We started their elopement day before sunrise, driving up a bumpy Jeep road. We stopped at a blue alpine lake tucked into the trees and they both got dressed on opposite sides of their Jeep. After their first look, we headed higher up to a second alpine lake. This is when we started seeing more and more wildflowers. Jason and Jessica drank coffee and exchanged gifts at the edge of a bright blue alpine lake and soaked in the quietness of the morning.

We met their families at a campground and then made our way up a winding off-road trail to their ceremony. For their ceremony, Jason and Jessica included all of their guests by giving everyone a short speaking role. After the ceremony, they enjoyed cinnamon rolls before parting ways until lunch in Ouray. To end the morning, we spent more time exploring and searching for wildflowers.

After an afternoon break in coverage, we met up again and headed back into the mountains on another off-road trail. This time, Jason and Jessica brought their two dogs, Calvin and Eva. They exchanged their vows privately while standing high above the valley below them and then had a picnic next to another alpine lake. We ended the evening with blue hour photos at a waterfall and then watched the stars come out.

Jason and Jessica had big dreams for their elopement day, and with some planning and plenty of coverage time, we were able to make it happen for them!
