Hiking Engagement Session in Colorado

Every year, we release a few special dates for discounted adventure sessions in locations that we’ve been dying to visit with a couple. These sessions not only allow us to photograph in a new place, but it also gives couples an excuse to celebrate their relationship. While Gregory and Jennifer are not actually engaged (as the title would suggest), they just moved in together and wanted to have photos taken to hang on their walls.

Their couples session started with an off-road drive deep into the Colorado mountains. It was a Saturday afternoon, so the trails were busy with other people, but once we arrived at the hiking trailhead, the crowds had disappeared and we had the entire trail to ourselves.

The trail was beautiful and headed through a mountain meadow and then up to a rocky alpine lake. Gregory and Jennifer brought their dog along and she loved racing them down the trail. We arrived at the alpine lake just after the sun had tucked itself behind the mountain. But even in the shade, we could see that the water was a clear blue color, we could see the rocky bottom even in the deeper sections!

After exploring at the lake and taking a sandwich break, we hiked back to the trailhead in the dark. Back at the trailhead, we looked across the valley and the Milky Way was visible over the mountains. We ended the night looking for shooting stars (this session took place during the Perseid meteor shower) and naming constellations.
