How to Find a Cheap Venue for Your Small Wedding in Colorado
We are going to start by being completely honest. After ten years capturing small weddings and elopements in Colorado, we have seen these lower-cost venues become more competitive as more couples choose to have small weddings. So we’ve put together some tips for finding and booking a budget small wedding venue.
1. Start Planning Early
Some small wedding venues, such as Maroon Bells Amphitheater are extremely competitive. If you want to give yourselves the most options possible, start planning your small wedding as far in advance as possible. Each venue will begin booking at a different time. Some can be booked up to 2 years in advance, while others may not open up until 6 months in advance. If possible, we often recommend starting the planning process at least 14 months in advance.
2. Be Flexible
There is a chance that you can plan ahead and do everything right but still not be the first to reserve your dream small wedding venue. Being flexible with your date, chosen venue space, as well as your maximum budget will allow you to pivot plans, if needed.
3. Get Married on a Weekday
Even with small weddings and elopements becoming more popular over the last few years, weekdays are still a great way to not only lower the competition for your favorite venue, but also lower the amount of crowds at venues on public lands. Some larger venues even offer smaller packages for couples getting married on weekdays!
4. Get Married During Off-Season
Peak small wedding and elopement season in Colorado typically ranges from May to October. Choosing a date from November to April is a great way to get a better deal on your venue and have fewer couples competing for the same date.
5. Consider Traditional Venues
Don’t be afraid to reach out to the larger venues that you love. They may not publicly list it on their website, but some may offer special elopement or small wedding packages for couples with a small guest count, who are getting married on a weekday, or during off-season.
6. Think Outside the Box
Sometimes the perfect venue isn’t what you would normally consider when thinking about a wedding ceremony. With a smaller guest count, you have the ability to choose from spaces like campgrounds, picnic areas, State Parks, National Parks, home rentals, private farms, or even public gardens.
