Fall Elopement at Sapphire Point in Colorado
Eric + Paige
As Paige and Eric put it, “we have never been in a rush.”
These two lovely souls first met in high school, and formed a friendship. That friendship continued with them for years and into college, until they finally started dating toward the end of their time there. They were never in a rush to get engaged or to get married, they wanted to do their best to soak up every minute of time through each of their life stages together. So as you can imagine, neither of them wanted to rush through their wedding day.
That’s part of what made them want to elope. The other part, was the wedding of Eric’s brother a few years ago. Paige and Eric attended and couldn’t help but notice that the intimate event, with only immediate family present, felt fully focused on the happiness of the couple. They wanted that same feeling of being surrounded by those who had really been there for them most in their lives. So with that in mind, we dove into planning the perfect blend of adventure alone and with family for their day.
Having had some previous experience with Breckenridge, they were open to any ideas but knew they had a love for that area. And fortunately, Breckenridge has some incredible options for a wedding day that is both intimate and immersed in nature. This is why our day started at beautiful Sapphire Point Overlook. Everyone arrived in the perfect hiking attire: suits and formal dresses. Luckily, although the walk to the ceremony area is a dirt path, it is also short. As family and friends made their way down, I think I saw the nerves creep into Paige and Eric’s faces. The ceremony is often the hard part of the day, only because it’s typically a foreign thing to really profess your love for someone in that way. It’s a huge part of what makes elopements and weddings so special for us.
So as Paige made her way into the ceremony arm in arm with Eric, and we caught glimpses of tears forming in some of the guests’ eyes, we knew we were in for a really special moment. The two of them led their own ceremony, and started by acknowledging their friends and family for their contributions throughout a lifetime of feeling loved. We can neither confirm nor deny whether we were already crying ourselves at this point in the ceremony. But whether we were or not, there was no stopping it once they began their vows to each other. Tears flowed freely for many of us in attendance. It was so heartfelt, and you could feel the effort and attention that had been paid to conveying just what their partner meant to them.
Needless to say, after the ceremony, we knew everyone was going to need some time before we took family photos. To break up the action, we immediately followed their ceremony with their first dance. It was fun, upbeat, and the two had been practicing the choreography. We’re a huge fan of dances like this because not only are the a ton of fun to document, but they’re also a ton of fun to watch as a guest. The reactions you’ll get at each big move are well worth the effort. But crying and dancing at 10,000 feet above sea level will take it out of you, so drinks were in order.
A champagne toast in their custom Yeti camp mugs, and some family photos later, we decided we should head down to immerse ourselves in the golden aspens we could see in the distance. Our favorite aspen grove in the area just happened to be at full peak Fall colors, and we had fun stomping through the handful of fallen leaves and admiring the changing of seasons. We couldn’t stop there, because we just had to also get up on top of a mountain too. When in Rome, right?
We drove further up, stopping in the forest on the way for a quick picnic, and continuing on until we were high enough to see for miles. Eric swept Paige off her feet and they ran and danced around as we basked in the last rays of sunshine. Once they dipped behind the mountains in the distance, we hung on for just a few more moments while Paige and Eric cuddled up together and soaked in everything they were feeling as the day winded down.
When we were finally back at their accommodation, with them and all of their guests around one long table, we couldn’t help but reflect on the day we had just had. I’ve mentioned a lot about what we did on this day with Paige and Eric, but what I haven’t talked about is how they made us feel. Welcomed is an understatement, and we don’t even know that it was by effort. These two just exude friendliness and compassion, and we couldn’t be more grateful for being included in a day we’ll never forget. If you both read this, thank you, so much.
This elopement took place on Ute and Cheyenne Land.
