Sunset Alpine Lake Elopement in Boulder, Colorado
Sunset Hiking Elopement in Colorado
Kami + Tom
When Kami and Tom met through mutual friends, Kami was fully content living the single life, but it was hard to deny their connection. Their relationship blossomed over 2020, so they got to know each other over many walks together. On the surface, Kami and Tom might look like opposites. Kami owned her own beauty pageant business and Tom was the 2010 record holder for completing the Iditarod on foot. But when you look closer, they have so much in common. They both have a love for adventure, dancing in the living room, and caring for their children and dogs.
Kami and Tom secretly traveled from Pennsylvania to elope in Colorado at one of our favorite alpine lakes at sunset. Only a few of their friends and family knew their plans. In fact, they were already planning a reception for later in the summer and had convinced everyone that they were getting married then! We met them in the parking lot at the trailhead, a little bit nervous about what the weather would bring us. After watching the radar and the forecast like a hawk all day, we were seeing the chance of thunderstorms constantly increasing. But as we started our hike, the clouds cleared and we were given blue skies and sunshine!
When we were almost at the end of the trail, Kami and Tom changed into their wedding attire and then had their first look along one of our favorite segments of the trail. During their first look, Tom sang “You are so Beautiful” to Kami. And now it was finally time for their ceremony, but there was one large obstacle standing in the way… A deep and quick-moving water crossing. We stood together at the edge of the water and Kami wasn’t sure if she could make it, but with Tom’s support (literally and figuratively), they crossed the water together.
Their ceremony was held at the edge of the alpine lake. They read their personal vows to each other and there may have been a tear or two! Afterward, we all cheered and they posed with their “Surprise! We’re Married!” They planned to send out elopement announcements shortly after they returned home. We ended the evening with some champagne and a first dance as the sun dipped behind the mountain. On our hike back to the trailhead, we saw a moose off in the distance, which was such a perfect way to cap off their elopement day.
