Elopement at Aldasoro Ranch in Telluride, Colorado
2-Day Adventure Elopement in Telluride, Colorado
Clara + Ty
Clara and Ty grew up and spent most of their lives living in separate countries before finding their way to Colorado. They first met while playing softball together, and slowly found that they got along, but their friendship never went anywhere. Clara was a Packers fan and Ty loved the Bears, how could it ever work out? Enter the goodest of boys, Robson Chuck Wagon. Sometimes it takes a little bit of puppy love to ignite a romance, and Robson did just that. After Ty saw that Clara had adopted a puppy, he reached back out and his heart was officially retrieved (okay, we’ll stop).
With their great love for all things outdoors, it only made sense for them to get married while surrounded by gorgeous mountains. As we started diving deeper into their elopement vision, we knew that it was essential to incorporate some adventure, some awe-inspiring views, as well as some quality time with the people who mean the most to them. This quickly led us to the San Juans of Colorado, which is, in our humble opinion, the most beautiful region of the state. And with the location picked out, they decided to split their elopement into two days. The first day focused on the two of them and their adventure. The second day, a more “traditional” day centered around their guests.
This elopement took place on Ute and Pueblo Land.
Day 1
The night before their elopement, we were kept up by thunderstorms, an unusual occurrence for this time of year in Colorado. As it poured rain and the sky flashed with lightning, we knew that the mountaintop we were headed to the next morning would be fully covered in snow. Fortunately, we know this area very well so we rested knowing that we had many backup locations up our sleeves.
Sure enough, as we met with them before sunrise, we could see quite a bit of snow on the highest mountain peaks. And as we carefully drove further and further up, the roads became covered in the most picturesque snow. As we climbed a steep off-road trail in our vehicles, we discussed over our walkie-talkies whether or not it was safe to proceed. We pushed forward to the first location, knowing that it would be a perfect place to safely assess the road and turn around if needed.
We slowly and safely made it to a beautiful high-elevation meadow and it was the most amazing winter wonderland. We enjoyed the views before agreeing to head back down to a lower elevation for their private vow exchange. We led the way to one of our favorite locations where we knew the roads would be better. Along the way, Clara and Ty told us that they saw a spot that could be good for their private vow exchange. We pulled over and all agreed that it was perfect.
Clara and Ty tried not to shiver as they read their vows, but there was no holding in the tears. And after their vows, they hugged each other and then laughed in disbelief that they had finally done it! As the sun finally reached us down in the valley, we immediately warmed up and could admire the incredible juxtaposition of the snow and the fall color. We spent the rest of the morning exploring some of our favorite aspen groves and taking in the surprisingly beautiful weather.
Day 2
Clara and Ty started their “official” wedding day at the large home they rented with all of their guests. They got ready separately before having their first look behind the house. As Ty waited for Clara to arrive, he was so nervous, and their reactions to seeing each other were so sweet! Next, they took some photos with their matchmaking dog, Robson. He was so excited that he immediately stepped on Clara’s dress and left a muddy pawprint.
It wouldn’t be a day with Clara and Ty without a little adventure, so on the way to their ceremony, we drove up an off-road trail to a gorgeous waterfall. Getting up to the waterfall was rocky and muddy, but Clara managed to make it up in her heels!
Finally, it was time to head to their ceremony. To get there, we drove up a bumpy dirt road high above Telluride. Their ceremony was held in front of a grove of yellow aspen trees, on a beautiful piece of land with stunning mountain views. They chose to have Ty’s friend officiate the ceremony, and Clara’s friend lead their handfasting ceremony. It was a stunning and lighthearted ceremony, perfect for them.
After they were officially married, they celebrated with some hugs, some champagne, and lots of dancing. And as the sun started to set, their guests headed back into Telluride for dinner and we stayed just a little bit longer so Clara and Ty could have just a few more minutes to really soak everything in.
