Colorado Hiking Elopement While Pregnant

7 years after meeting while playing softball, Saara and Jermie got engaged while on a hike in Colorado. They both love hiking and enjoying the outdoors together, so it seemed fitting for them to elope on a hike as well! They decided to elope at one of our favorite alpine lakes in Colorado. Not long into planning their elopement, Saara found out that she was pregnant! One of our favorite stories that Saara told us about their elopement is that she bought her wedding dress a few months before she found out she was pregnant. It was a sample dress and she was able to get an amazing deal on it. The downside was that it would need to be altered down a couple of sizes to fit her. But this worked in her favor and the dress ended up fitting her baby bump perfectly! She said that it felt like it was meant to be.

On the morning of their elopement, we met Saara and Jermie at the trailhead before sunrise. Together, we hiked to the alpine lake with just our headlamps to light the way. As we reached the top, the sun was just starting to rise. Saara and Jermie parted ways to change into their wedding attire. It wasn’t long before we realized that we weren’t alone at the lake. There was a large bull moose on the opposite side of some trees from us. While he didn’t seem aggressive or bothered by our presence, but we still kept a close eye on him so that we could retreat if needed.

Slowly, the mountain behind the lake started to light up with the most beautiful alpenglow that we’ve ever seen! We all rushed down to the edge of the lake for their ceremony. There, they each read their vows to each other, and Saara cried a little bit, even though she promised she wouldn’t! Instead of champagne, they celebrated with homemade peanut butter cupcakes and stood at the top of a waterfall.

We started our hike down as most other hikers were just starting their hike up. It was such a perfect morning, and we all agreed that a nap was on the agenda that afternoon.

This elopement took place on Ute and Cheyenne Land.
