2-Day Elopement on the Oregon Coast

Lindsay + Sonny

Throughout the last couple of years, we’ve told many stories about couples postponing their elopement plans, changing their locations and guest counts, and reimagining what their elopement might look like. Lindsay and Sonny know this all too well… And then some.

Lindsay and Sonny got engaged at the end of 2018, beneath towering redwood trees at Hoyt Arboretum in Portland, Oregon. They started planning a destination wedding in Havana, Cuba, a place that they had fallen in love with on a previous trip. Planning was in full force, they hired a planner and even picked out a venue. But shortly before they were scheduled to send out their save-the-dates, American tourism in Cuba was officially shut down or at least made much more difficult.

So with their dream wedding in Cuba canceled, they set their sights on a destination elopement in Seville, Spain. This time, they hired a wedding planner, chose a venue, hired a caterer, Lindsay bought a dress, and their save-the-dates were sent out. Their wedding date was going to be October 9th, 2020. Of course, we all know what happened in 2020.

It was time to regroup, AGAIN. This time, they set their eyes on a destination elopement, but this time in Iceland for the summer of 2021. They got in touch with us and we started planning the most incredible 2-day elopement in the Iceland Highlands. We would ride in a Super Jeep, hike to waterfalls, and explore some of the most incredible places in the country. But as cases continued to climb, Lindsay and Sonny again made the difficult decision to postpone their elopement for the third time.

But the fourth time’s a charm, right? After so much heartbreak and regrouping, Lindsay and Sonny decided to return to Oregon, where their wedding journey started, and to a place that means so much to them. They decided to get married on the beach in Oregon, surrounded by some of their closest family and friends. And while we know how difficult the road was leading up to their Oregon elopement, we truly believe that it was absolutely worth the wait!

Lindsay and Sonny decided to split their elopement into two days. The first day was spent with just the two of them. When we both arrived at the trailhead, there was a huge sense of joy and relief that this was FINALLY happening! We hiked up onto a cliffside where they privately read their vows to each other. Then we spent the rest of the evening hiking through the forest and playing on the beach. These two are adorable together, and it was so much fun to see their playful dynamic. Lindsay seriously could not stop smiling!

The second day of their elopement was centered around their friends, family, and their sweet pup, Cookie. Lindsay and Sonny are surrounded by such a loving community, full of people who care so deeply about them. They had a beautiful ceremony officiated by Lindsay’s brother on the beach behind their rental house. And when Lindsay’s brother officially pronounced them as husband and wife, everyone erupted in applause and then rushed in for hugs. They all celebrated with champagne on the deck of the house and then Lindsay and Sonny had their first dance on the dunes behind the house. As the sun went down, Lindsay and Sonny walked down to the beach one last time with us before returning to their guests for dinner.

While Lindsay and Sonny’s elopement day was nothing like their 2018, 2019, or 2020 selves would have imagined it, it was beyond perfect, and an adventure that we will never forget!

Our time with Vow of the Wild was everything we dreamed it would be and more. Lisa and Alex were nothing short of amazing from start to finish. They helped us plan our entire Iceland elopement, and when we had to cancel that plan (due to Covid) they helped us completely re-vamp everything for our new location, the magical Oregon Coast. They were there every step of the way, with kindness, patience, and so much heart. They were flexible, receptive, and always present. It was clear that their only intention was for us to have the wedding we’d always dreamed of. And they 100% delivered.

On the day, they were so mindful of the energy. I was worried we would feel nervous, but we felt completely comfortable. They gave us so much space to just be together and soak it all in. Lisa and Alex are so skilled at the whole “dance” of capturing the moment but giving us all the room to be “in it” too. We had some friends and family there, and they were just as wonderful with them as they were with us. Everyone felt comfortable and had a blast. And of course, when we got the footage back, we were floored!! They captured the magic of the day, and we will cherish our beautiful photos and incredible video, forever.

This elopement took place on Nehalem, Siletz, and Grand Ronde Land.
