Elope in Estes Park

Rocky Mountain National Park Elopement at 3M Curve

Angela + Jason

Angela and Jason got engaged while on a trip in Europe. Like many couples, they struggled to decide on what type of wedding they wanted. Along the way, they began to realize that they were losing sight of the real meaning of their wedding day, which is their relationship. At first, they considered renting a big house on an island in the Caribbean and inviting some of their closest family and friends. But Angela couldn't get the Colorado mountains out of her mind. They had each visited Colorado before and they loved everything about it. Finally, they decided to travel to Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado from their home in Michigan and elope. Their plan was to spend their wedding day focused on each other and then have a post-elopement celebration back at home when they returned. They were excited about the idea of sharing their Highlight Film at their reception so that their families can experience the day with them.

We met up with Angela and Jason at the adorable Airbnb that they rented. The Airbnb was located up in a gorgeous meadow surrounded by views of the mountains. There, they got ready together and had their first look. Jason's reaction to seeing Angela was one of our favorite first looks we've ever captured. He immediately had to wipe tears from his eyes.

For their ceremony, we headed further into the mountains. Along the way, we were lucky enough to see a bear! Angela and Jason didn't have a chance to see their ceremony site in advance, but they said it was exactly what they were picturing. They stood on rocks that overlooked a green meadow. With us and a family of deer as their only witnesses, Angela and Jason read their vows to each other, exchanged rings, and had their first kiss.

Angela and Jason's biggest request for their wedding day was for us to take them high up into the mountains. So we drove up above treeline and enjoyed the chilly mountain air. Angela had a gorgeous lace cape that she put on and we had so much fun photographing it blowing in the wind. We ended the night in a small forested area next to a stream. There, they signed their marriage license (and we got to sign as their witnesses!) and then cuddled up under a blanket.

This elopement took place on Ute, Cheyenne, and Arapaho Land.
