Family-Friendly Colorado Elopement
Colorado Elopement at an Alpine Lake
Jacqui + Steven
Jacqui and Steven first started dating when they were only 16 years old. Over the years, they always knew that they wanted to get married, but life always seemed to get in the way. Finally, 14 years later, they traveled to Colorado with their daughter to get married.
On the afternoon of their elopement, we drove up a bumpy, dirt road to their cabin. It was surrounded by a pine forest that was inhabited by tiny chipmunks, which their daughter loved looking for. Every time we saw one, we made sure to point it out to her. Jacqui and Steven got ready separately. While Jacqui finished up her hair and makeup, Steven got ready on one of the cabin’s patios. When we noticed the rubber band he had around his wrist, he explained that it represented his relationship with Jacqui. Even if they get stretched apart, they’ll always snap back together.
Once Steven was ready, he had a first look with his daughter. It was so much fun to see her light up and show off her dress to him. Next, it was time for Jacqui to get into her dress. Their daughter helped by adjusting the train of the dress, and this became her favorite task of the day. When it was time for Jacqui and Steven to have their first look, Steven waited in the trees behind the cabin while Jacqui made her way to him. Steven turned around, there were huge smiles, sighs of relief that they could finally see each other, and big hugs.
Then it was time to head to their ceremony! They loaded up their things in the car and we were off! As we departed, some dark clouds rolled in. We kept an eye on the clouds on the drive and refreshed the weather forecast over and over again. It looked like the rain would hold out for us, but the weather in the Colorado mountains is known for being unpredictable.
Jacqui and Steven had their ceremony along the edge of a gorgeous alpine lake. Their vows were so well-written and thought out. It was beautiful to hear the accumulation of so many years and experiences together. After they exchanged their vows and rings, they had their very first kiss (according to their daughter).
To celebrate, they had an amazing picnic in the forest. They opted for a colorful and delicious charcuterie board and pie. Once the charcuterie board was all laid out and ready, Steven realized that he wasn’t exactly sure how it’s supposed to be eaten. After Alex described how he likes to take a cracker and build a perfect bite of food with some meat and cheese, Steven immediately understood, “So an adult Lunchable, got it.” And suddenly we were all feeling nostalgic for our favorite elementary school lunch.
After everyone’s bellies were full, we headed back down to the lake one last time. Fortunately, the rain had held out for the ceremony and picnic, but it finally started to fall. Jacqui and Steven cuddled together at the edge of the lake while their daughter waited safely under an umbrella. In true Colorado style, the rain didn’t last long and we were able to explore a little bit more as the sun started to set.
While we walked along a small path above the lake, another couple ran by and warned us that there was a moose down by the lake. We kept a safe distance but got a quick view of him, munching away in the bushes. Jacqui and Steven had been hoping to see some of the wildlife Colorado is known for, and it really couldn’t have been a more perfect ending to their elopement day.
This elopement took place on Ute and Cheyenne Land.
