Colorado Jeep Adventure Engagement Session
Telluride Off-Road Jeep Adventure
Selina + Zach
In our opinion, the San Juan region of Colorado is unlike anywhere else in the world. And we tell this to anyone who will listen. The mountains are just different, sharper, more unique, and diverse. You can stand in one spot and see towering reddish-orange mountains, then turn and see a rocky 14er, then turn again and see an alpine lake at the base of a towering gray mountain. It’s really cool.
Selina and Zach are getting married later this year in Sedona, Arizona. And in the year or so that we’ve been helping them plan their red rocks elopement, we hadn’t had the chance to meet in person. But when they heard that we had a trip to Telluride planned, they quickly got a sitter for their dog and packed their bags for a mountain adventure.
On the morning of their Adventure Session, we met along the side of the highway in our Jeep rentals. We handed them a walkie talkie and we started our bumpy drive through the dark forest. As the sun started to come up, it became obvious to us that the air was filled with smoke. At the time, four huge wildfires were burning throughout the state, one of which has grown to be the largest wildfire in Colorado history. The sky was a strange, brown color and everything looked a little bit darker. But we continued on.
Our first stop was a waterfall. We always preface to our couples that if we ask them to do something that they’re uncomfortable with, they can let us know. But Selina boldly told us that they were up for anything, and that ended up being true. To get the perfect photo, they carefully crossed the river and then climbed up on the top of the waterfall. And we’ll let you be the judge of just how worth it that was.
We continued up the off-road trail in our Jeeps, making sure to make as big of a splash as possible during the few water crossings. Even with the smoky sky and the limited visibility, we were all still in awe at the views. Remember when we said there was something different about the San Juans? It’s hard to put a finger on, but when you see it, you know it.
On the night that Selina and Zach first met, they were playing “wingmen” for their friends who were going dancing together. Like a romance film, Selina and Zach started dancing, too. But unlike a romance film, things went wrong when Selina asked Zach to flip her, and Selina ended up face planting on the ground. It was not a good first impression. So when the four of us ended the morning at an amazing overlook, we figured they needed a redemption dance. There were no flips this time, but it was so much fun to watch Zach twirl Selina with ease.
It’s not often that we get to spend an entire morning with our couples before their wedding day, but we were so glad that Selina and Zach could make the trip out to Colorado! It makes us that little bit more excited (that we didn’t think we could be) for their elopement this fall!
