Winter Elopement at The Lodge at Breckenridge

After growing up in Florida, Christina and David already had their fair share of beach weddings by the time they started planning their wedding. And knowing what they didn’t want slowly guided them toward the mountains. Eventually, they decided to travel to Colorado to get married in the snow, so they picked a date in late November and started planning their dream mountain elopement with their closest family, friends, and dogs (of course). But if you’ve been keeping track of the 2020 wedding planning process for a majority of our couples, you probably know what we’re about to say next…

In August, they were told that the ceremony site they had booked was canceling all weddings for the rest of the year. To help them avoid any unnecessary stress, we scrambled to find nearby alternatives for their ceremony. A few weeks later, they booked The Lodge at Breckenridge and things were moving forward smoothly again. But as cases continued to rise and Colorado enforced gathering restrictions on a majority of the state, Christina and David were again faced with a difficult decision. Do they postpone their elopement and wait until their family and friends can attend, or do they come out to Colorado and celebrate with just their dogs and Christina’s parents? They decided to move forward with their smaller elopement and include their friends and family in a Zoom call instead.

On the morning of their elopement, Christina and David got ready in separate rooms at The Lodge at Breckenridge. They had their first look on a nearby hiking trail that traversed a snowy forest. For late November, it was a beautiful bluebird day, but it was still pretty chilly, so Christina warmed up in a gorgeous light blue coat. Their ceremony was held on the back deck of The Lodge at Breckenridge, which has gorgeous mountain views in all directions. After waiting to make sure everyone was ready on the Zoom call, Christina and David started their ceremony. They thanked everyone for being there (virtually) and told a little bit of their story. Finally, they made their promises to each other before sharing their first kiss. Christina’s parents along with their guests on the Zoom call cheered and even the dogs seemed to sense the excitement. After the ceremony, Christina and David chatted with their Zoom guests and one mentioned that this was her first wedding. Everyone laughed and assured her that not all weddings were like this!

The rest of the morning was spent exploring the mountains around Breckenridge. We made a stop at Sapphire Point Overlook, where they had originally planned to have their ceremony. Then we drove up a snowy mountain road for their first dance. The mountaintop was windy and bitter cold, but Christina and David held tightly to each other to stay warm. After admiring the views, they headed back down to Breckenridge to get ready for dinner that evening.

This elopement took place on Ute and Cheyenne Land.
